Last night, my patient was a teenager with Aspergers Syndrome, who is obsessed with anime and super heroes. Anyway, everything is a power struggle with her and she often ends up in the quiet room, which frequently leads to seclusion(being in quiet room with the door locked). And this usually leads to her trying to choke herself or head banging, in which case we have to go in and hold her or put her in restraints.
Anyhow, the standard protocol is that the psych resident on call has to come see the patient within 2 hours of the door being locked, aka the patient "going into seclusion". Well, when the psych resident came up to out floor quickly and this patient was still in seclusion. When the psych resident came in and asked her what was wrong, she responded "My life is a living Hell." Then, she dramatically threw her arms in the air and yelled "This is NOT my world! My world is full of sunshine and green grass and laughter. People playing in park and children running." Then when she had finally calmed down and was ready to leave the quiet room, she stumbled around and pretended to be blind, because we had taken her glasses off of her face upon entering the quiet room. She has almost no presciption in her glasses.
HA HA HA.
As frustrating as work can be, sometimes you just have to look back and laugh.
