And then there were 5 Lens's...welcome Jill
In new and big and very very exciting news, the brother proposed to his girlfriend of 3 years tonight and she said...YES! I am going to have a sister-in-law. I am very excited, because Jill is a good time and they are a great couple. Congrats Josh and Jill!
fat tuesday
The Lenten season is soon upon us(like tomorrow).
Every year I give up one or more things and it is usually easy for me to decide.
Last year, I gave up regular soda, bread, pasta, and potatoes.
This year I really don't know what to give up...and I need to decide soon so I can fill up on it today.
NOW TAKING SUGGESTIONS!

it's only tuesday
I feel like the weekend should be here already, but it's only Tuesday. I started this past weekend off by working a double shift(7am-11:30pm) on Friday, work evenings on Saturday, a double on Sunday and a double on Monday. Today is my day off and I am working evenings and probably a double tomorrow. So, work has pretty much been consuming my life and I really need to do laundry. Maybe I can make that happen sometime this weekend before I go into work.
Earlier this month, I did see a pretty good movie. In Her Shoes. I had heard bad reviews about it, but I thought it was pretty good. I was expecting it to be a happy go lucky chick flick...it's more emotional scenes threw me off a bit. Overall, I thought it was good...but maybe that is because I had such low expectations for it. I don't think it is a waste of time to watch..you know, if you are one of those people that have 2 extra hours to spare in your life.

IF all bad things happen in 3's, she has one more coming
First, she and Lance split.
Then, she gets the big C.
Happy 2006, Sheryl.
Sheryl Crow has breast cancer.

News...interesting?!?!
Although there is a large gathering of you out there that do not believe that I have any faults....I do. I have never found the news interesting. I have made several attempts in my life to get into watching the nightly news, reading the paper and checking it on the internet. I have finally given up, scan the news and only read what is interesting to me...which is not usually anything of political, social, or moral value.
Here is something that caught my eye today:
Thieves make off with $26,000 in beer: Semi trailer loaded with Miller goes missing in Wisconsin

Cheney's got a gun
Being from Iowa, I am more than aware that hunting accidents do happen. I do also feel a little bad that the VP has been getting a lot of flack for his accident. However, he did shoot someone in the face....which brings a whole new meaning to one of my favorite sayings.
Anyhow, Eddie shared this with me and I found it so funny I wanted to share this little song with you.

twinkies
These are the fun Guiness shirts we all scored from the Guiness girls at Hawkeyes. Jenne and I slept in ours that night. We are such dorks. With a special thanks going out to Malcom who let Jenne borrow his black and tan so the Guiness girls thought we were drinking Guiness and could get the shirts.

I think she's stalking me
As posted on www.nursing.uiowa.edu
Dean Dreher leaving UI
Melanie C. Dreher, the Kelting Dean of the University of Iowa College of Nursing, has announced her resignation from the college after nine years to accept the deanship at Rush University College of Nursing in Chicago. Dreher's resignation will take effect May 31. Executive Vice President and Provost Michael J. Hogan will begin immediately to consult with faculty about the formation of a committee to search for a permanent replacement.Hogan expressed appreciation for Dreher's service to the UI and her leadership in the College of Nursing."Dean Dreher has served the College of Nursing with a distinction that has marked her career," Hogan said. "She has been a tireless advocate for the nursing profession, and her leadership in professional nursing education is apparent in the outstanding quality of our nursing faculty, students and graduates. The College of Nursing is one of the best nursing schools in the nation, and this is indeed a reflection of Dean Dreher's tenure. We wish her the best in her new endeavors."Dreher came to the UI in 1997 after serving as dean of the University of Massachusetts School of Nursing, a post she had held since 1988. During her time at Iowa she has been instrumental in changing the education and credentialing of professional nurses, establishing the new Masters in Nursing and Health Care Practice degree at the UI which has become a national model for professional nursing education. Her dedication to nursing as the profession with the greatest potential to change contemporary health care and improve the health and well-being of people and communities is the motivating factor in her extensive work with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), where she serves as a board member-at-large. Dreher served as president (1995-1997) of Sigma Theta Tau International, the nursing honor society, and in 2001 was paid the tribute of having the "Melanie Dreher Dean's Award" named in her honor. The latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of "Best Graduate Schools" rated the Nursing Service Administration program as the top program of its kind in the nation. The Nursing Specialties-Gerontological/Geriatric program is rated No. 2, and the Nursing Master's program is No. 8. The Nursing Specialty of Nurse Practitioner program is ranked No. 11, and the Nursing: Anesthesia program is No. 25 in the country, according to U.S. News.In addition to her role as dean, Dreher has had a distinguished research career, examining culture as an organizing value in nursing education and practice. As a nurse and an anthropologist, Dreher has conducted extensive research on the health and welfare of children, women and working men in the Caribbean, receiving a citation from the U.S. Ambassador for her contribution to the welfare of Jamaica.Dreher is a charter member of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Council of Public Representatives and of NIH's National Institute for Nursing Research. Currently she serves on the board of directors of Wellmark Health Plan of Iowa, Beverly Enterprises, Inc. and Trinity Health.

Now, that's just CRUEL!
After doing some yoga this morning, someone buzzed our door. Excited to have a visitor, I let them in. Up the stairs comes the delivery man with flowers. Questions filled my mind.
Were they for me or Jenne?
Who were they from?
What kind of flowers are they?
When the man reaches me, he says, "Your neighbor in 3B wasn't home, so I thought you could let me in and I could leave them in front of their door."
I hope that delivery guy is single. He deserves to be. You can't get a girl all excited like that then tell her the flowers are for someone else.

It may have been one of the nicest Valentine's Days that I can remember. With absolutely no expectations for Valentine's greetings, there was one around every corner, suprising me all day long.
I received beautiful purple orchids, candy, messages, a package for island survival so I can run off with a cabana boy and several gift baskets from parents at work. I even got a Valentine from one of the little boys at work tonight. It was absolutely adorable.
I received all the love I could handle today. Thanks everybody.
i love you.

I am going to watch the show just for the Fridge shots
I couldn't resist stealing this post from Chris:
Roseanne Barr recalls that, one night about 16 years ago, when "we were all drunk, John Goodman took a picture of George [Clooney] naked with Groucho Marx glasses over his private area and we used to have that on the fridge on the 'Roseanne' show, with a magnet on top of it." She tells Attitude magazine that the shot was stolen. "I always check to see if it's on eBay," she says. "Somebody must have just thrown it away, because it's never shown up."
I will never look at the show the same way.

SHUT UP!
The people that live above us have a treadmill(we think) and it is so obnoxious. It shakes things so bad in our apt that things FALL. Our picutres bounce on the walls. It's so loud.
STOP EXERCISING.
The worst was when it was before 8am on a Saturday morning.

Busy Sunday
I got up and went to mass this morning.
Had brunch with a co-worker at the Twisted Spoke.
Ran 5000 errands and got stuff to have a Super Bowl Party for the kids at work. They really appreciated the special stuff we brought in.
Went to work.
Now I'm cashin' it in.

an improvement
I have finished book #2 of the year. The Quiltmakers Gift. I have started the 3rd book of the year. That is all I have to report.
Oh.
And I just got back from Target. I bought a lot of their flavored waters. I love them. Tangerine Lime, Wild Cherry and White Grape. I love the white grape. It tastes like grape pop and makes me feel like a 5 year old when I drink it. It's delicious. I also bought a bag of Dove dark chocolate hearts. I love them and I only allow myself to buy them around Valentine's Day. And I deserve them...especially today.
