You know you can feel the beat
While at the bar, the song Thriller by Michael Jackson came on. Being the fun girls that we are, we encouraged the guy on the bar stool next to us to do the Thriller dance. After he had it mastered, he posed for a picture with us. Jenne and I are changing the world, one thriller dance at a time.

Schmoozing the residents...
Hello Mary Sue--
When I was an RA at Iowa, we had to schmooze our residents to get them to keep thier rooms clean and let them be showed to potential students. Then, when we opened the door, I prayed that the residents hadn't had a party the night before and had 3 people shacking in thier room. Why didn't you use this idea at Iowa? It would have made my job so much easier.
The University of Michigan is paying people to keep thier rooms clean.

Maybe Bush had a meeting with Mary J first
Feb. 22 - President Bush's meetings with European Union leaders made headlines across the Continent today when he suffered what was described as a "sudden, uncontrollable case of the munchies" during a high-level diplomatic gathering in Brussels.
Observers first noticed the onset of the president's severe hunger pangs in the middle of a speech by French President Jacques Chirac, during which Bush whispered to an aide, "Get me some nachos or something. I'm starving."
A few minutes later, the aide returned with a bag of Doritos, which Bush chomped on loudly during the French leader's speech, raising eyebrows among those who attended the meeting.
But Bush's erratic behavior did not stop there, as many in attendance noticed the president "giggling to himself for no apparent reason" at many points during Chirac's address.
Later, during a speech by Javier Solana, the chief foreign policy official for the European Union, Bush, wearing dark sunglasses and an iPod, was heard singing along loudly to a song from Pink Floyd's classic album, "Dark Side of the Moon."
Contacted during his current Asian tour, Bush's father, the former president George H.W. Bush, said that he was "disappointed" to hear of his son's behavior, telling reporters, "His mother and I will have a word with him when he gets home."
Apprised of his father's comments by a journalist in Brussels, President Bush replied, "Oh, great--now he's not going to let me go on spring break."

Happy Valentine's Day!
Have you ever noticed that there are two types of people walking around on Valentine's Day? There is the "I love LOVE" person and the "I hate anyone that could possible even think about smiling while I drown in my self pity today" person. While I do not really fall into either category I embrace this holiday as something completely different...my dad's birthday. Having an alternate holiday to celebrate has perhaps saved me from being one of the two aforementioned people. So, I hope everyone has a Happy Valentine's Day and to those that are down and out today, I hope you get pleasantly surprised.

Grim blog outlook
If there isn't too much blogging happening in the near future, it is because starting yesterday, I am working 6 days in a a row. For some reason that always takes it out of me. More now than ever, because our unit is full and we have a waiting list for kids to come in. So...please be patient with me....thanks.

I almost screwed up on Day 1
I planned out what I would eat today so that I would not be tempted by the things that I gave up for lent. At the last minute, I decided not to make salmon and green beans for dinner, but the box of mac and cheese in my cupboard. Not until i was boiling the noodles, did I notice what was wrong with the picture. I gave up pasta for lent. I finished making the mac and threw it in the freezer, moving on to make dinner number two of salmon and green beans. Good golly!

Fat Tuesday
As another Lenten season approaches, I had to sit down and consider what I would give up this year. I am giving up similar things to the past few years. This year, I am giving up bread, pasta, potatoes, and regular pop. It's going to be a long 6 weeks, but I think I can make it.

Pierce dismissed from men's basketball team
The university announced this afternoon that Pierre Pierce, who faces potential burglary, criminal mischief, false imprisonment, and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse charges, will no longer play for the Hawkeyes.According to a statement released this afternoon:UI basketball player Pierre Pierce has been permanently dismissed from the team. The announcement came today from Head Coach Steve Alford."Effective, immediately, Pierre Pierce has been dismissed from the University of Iowa men's basketball team," said Alford."I regret this step has become necessary, but Pierre has betrayed the trust we placed in him when he was given a second chance two years ago. Pierre is an excellent basketball player who will be missed by our team. But, given the circumstances, I feel this is the only appropriate response."Pierce, a 6-4, 195-pound junior guard from Westmont, Ill., was Iowa's leading scorer with a 17.8 average. He was a strong candidate for all-Big Ten honors. He started 80 of 84 games during his Iowa career. He scored 1,072 career points and had 305 assists in his two-plus years with Iowa. He was co-Most Valuable Player for the Hawkeyes last year and was a third-team all-Big Ten choice. Pierre was named to the Gazette Challenge all-tournament team the last two years.

Officials say the Hawkeye guard might face several charges, including assault with intent to commit sexual abusePierre Pierce could face a charge of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse for an alleged encounter with his girlfriend at her West Des Moines townhouse, police said on Tuesday while confirming their investigation is focusing on the Hawkeye basketball star.Investigators are also considering charging the UI junior with first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, and false imprisonment in addition to the attempted sexual-assault charge, which was erroneously listed as assault with intent to commit injury. In a statement released Tuesday, police said they plan to interview the 21-year-old UI junior "in the near future," but offered few other details.
